Shar Pei Fever
Some dogs, like the Shar Pei, have a unique feature called “shar pei fever” which causes their body temperature to spike, and they develop a fever when they are stressed or excited. Shar Pei fever is a condition that is specific to the Shar Pei breed and is characterized by a sudden spike in body temperature, which can reach as high as 106°F.
The cause of this condition is not well understood, but it is thought to be related to the breed’s unique immune system. This fever usually subsides on its own but it is important to seek veterinary care if it persists.
